PLG team unifies activation and retention data

Illustrative example. The account below describes Taskframe, a fictional project management SaaS company created to show how Funnelsight works in practice. It is not a real customer, and the figures are illustrative, not measured results.

The situation

Taskframe's growth team tracked activation in a spreadsheet, updated by hand after pulling numbers from their product analytics tool. The product team tracked retention separately, inside that same analytics tool, using its own definition of an active user. Neither team looked at the other's numbers unless a report was due.

The gap showed up at planning time. When the growth team said activation was up, the product team's retention view told a flatter story. Nobody could say with confidence whether new activated users were actually the ones sticking around, because activation and retention lived in two places that never talked to each other.

What changed

Taskframe connected their product usage data and CRM data in a single funnel view, then defined the activation event that mattered for their product once. That definition applied automatically to every report after that, so the growth team and the product team were finally working from the same number.

Setup didn't require a data team. The dashboard was live the same day the trial started, using a spreadsheet export while they connected a live data source.

The result

In this illustrative scenario, Taskframe's growth and product teams cut their monthly reconciliation time from roughly a full day of spreadsheet work to under an hour. Marketing and revenue looked at the same funnel, with the same activation definition, for the first time. Retention drop-off after activation became visible without a second export.
